What type of dogs do you accept into your training programs?

We accept all breeds and sizes of dogs into our Puppy Head Start and Board & Train programs. Puppies enrolled in our Puppy Head Start Program must be 8 to 24 weeks old, while dogs participating in our Board & Train Program must be 6 months of age or older. We also accept unaltered (not spayed or neutered) dogs in both programs.

Our Gun Dog Program is available exclusively to retriever breeds that are 6 months of age or older. This specialized, five-month program is designed for owners who want to develop a reliable hunting companion or prepare their dog for AKC and HRC Hunt Tests.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated before coming to RTK?

Yes, we require all dogs to be up to date on the following vaccines: Rabies, DHPP, and Bordetella (Kennel Cough). All dog owners must provide recent documentation of vaccinations prior to their dog’s stay. If your puppy hasn’t completed all of their vaccinations before starting the Puppy Head Start Program, we’ll arrange the remaining vet appointments with our veterinarian. All vaccinations and health related expenses are the responsibility of the puppy owner.

How long will my dog be at training?

The length of your dog's stay depends on the training program you choose and your individual training goals.

Puppy Head Start: Our Puppy Head Start Program requires a minimum commitment of four weeks. This allows puppies enough time to build confidence, establish consistent routines, and develop a strong foundation in training and socialization. If you'd like your puppy to continue progressing beyond the initial four weeks, their stay can be extended based on your goals.

Board & Train: Every Board & Train program is personalized to your dog's needs, previous training, and your desired outcomes. While there is no required minimum stay, most dogs remain with us for approximately 6 to 8 weeks to achieve reliable obedience and lasting results.

Gun Dog Program: Our Gun Dog Program is a comprehensive five-month training program. Developing a dependable hunting companion or hunt test dog requires time, consistency, and a progressive training approach. The five-month commitment allows your dog to build a solid obedience foundation before advancing through the retriever and field skills needed for success in hunting and AKC/HRC Hunt Tests.

What’s included in the training programs?

Every training program at Riptide Thunder Kennels is designed to provide your dog with the individualized care, structure, and training they need to succeed. All of our training programs include boarding, personalized one-on-one training, daily exercise and enrichment, food, and a safe, climate-controlled environment. Throughout your dog's stay, you'll receive multiple progress updates each week, including photos and videos, so you can follow along with their training journey. We also offer ongoing support and follow-up guidance after your dog goes home to reinforce success. Heart worm, flea, and tick prevention can be provided for an additional fee.
